9 months ago I saw women I knew that were so inspiring. They were helping others and changing their own lives. I heard the words residual and passive income. (I had been sitting in
my living room feeling sorry for myself and knew something was missing)

 I wanted to know how to inspire others.

I got up the day before Thanksgiving and committed to making a difference. I wanted to inspire, uplift and empower other women just as these women helped me! I spoke with a friend of mine and at the time she was helping 45 women reach their goals and making just under  $1,000 a week doing so! (Now its well over this amount)….Again, I’m still on my couch wondering what is missing. I moved to new state and felt so alone and wanted to make a change) Whatever she’s doing, I wanted to do it- HAD to do it- for my sanity! 

Now, we are almost half way through 2015 and I’m in the best shape Ive been in since having James. Every day I wake up excited to work towards my goals and help others do the same. I am now able to work without having to put my youngest in daycare. This was huge for me! ❤️

I mentioned it here, but I wanted to dive a bit deeper into some of my other reasons for joining Team INSPIRE and Beachbody (the makers of INSANITY and P90X).

•A few months after I joined Team INSPIRE I decided to set a monthly income goal. Yes, I want to help others in every way possible, but I also wanted to be able to bring in a monthly income that would contribute and allow me to give more and do more with my family.

Its been 3 ½ months since I set that monthly income goal and I am ¾ of the way there! I’ve been a stay at home mom for almost 4 years and Ive never been able to provide this type of income before! My husband is so supportive and I love that he is proud of the work I do!

•I’ve learned the ins and outs of passive income and now assist others in finding ways to create multiple streams of passive income so they too can bring a monthly income home. •Besides getting in great shape, I wanted to provide stability for my family and my secret, looong term goal (Shhhh!) is to retire my husband from the military. He does so much for our family and has sacrificed a lot for his country. He deserves to be able to kick back and not worry about when he has to leave us next.

•Working with Team INSPIRE and Beachbody has been a way for me to connect with other likeminded women and has ultimately given me a purpose. Like I mentioned before, something was missing. I couldn’t put my finger on it but I felt alone and empty. After connecting with Amanda and Team Inspire I have an amazing group of women that have helped me grow so much as a person and a parent. Each member is supportive and encouraging, it is such a blessing to be surrounded by so many hard working women!

Balancing Work and Family

Do you ever feel like you can’t  juggle everything on your to do list? Are you looking for ways to find life balance?

Being a full time mom, wife and work full time can get overwhelming. As moms we never get to “clock out.” There are meals to be made and laundry to be washed, kids and appointments  and EVERYTHING else…then add a job into that. Even though I work from my home, I still struggle with priorities and finding the time to get everything done. Can we just vote to add another 2 hours in the day?

Back in March I started to feel like I wasn’t doing any one of my tasks to the best of my ability and it started to wear on me. I had spent the last 6 months creating ways to help stay at home moms reach their goals in health and fitness but I had started to forget my own goals! I needed better time management. During my mentorship with Amanda Tress, I learned how to prioritize and balance work and family, something I’m sure most working moms and stay at home moms struggle with. I knew I had to refocus and find new ways that worked for our busy schedules.

I want to share some tips of balancing work and family life:Meal Preparation. Plan healthy Meals www.healthyfoodfitfamily.com

1. Plan for your week. Sundays are spent preparing for the week ahead.  My husband and I prepare our meals for the week and it saves so much time, its also nice to just hang out and enjoy each other while we cook. I also write down every appointment I have for the coming week; doctors, clients or personal appointments. I even write down when I plan on working out. I do this the old fashion way with a planner and pencil! Seeing it in front of me helps me to remember everything and I can easily change it when needed.

2. Set some social media limits. One of the HUGE tips Amanda taught me was one of the easiest ones. TURN OFF NOTIFICATIONS. You can do this in your settings/notifications area. By turning these off I no longer get distracted by messages and comments popping up on my phone through out the day (I still leave my email notifications on for business purposes). I check them in the morning with my tea, at nap time and again before bed. THAT’S IT!  Setting hours for yourself to get on social media have been such a great time saver. I no longer get lost on Pinterest or scrolling through my news feed. I also felt a relief of sorts when I turned off notifications. Isn’t that crazy!?

3. Turn everything off. Once you have turned off your phone notifications, focus on other things you can turn off to help you better manage your time. Is the TV on for background noise? Turn it off. The silence is relaxing while I work and my kids find ways to play without it, imagine that! (My electric bill went down too 🙂 )Another thing I “turn off” is my phone. I don’t actually shut it down but I turn it on Airplane mode while I sleep. Having your phone buzz or light up because you received a text or email can disrupt your sleep and distract you from going back to sleep once you notice it. Cheers to more restful nights and lower electric bills!

4. Plan to get fit. I mentioned it in tip 1 but I wanted to elaborate- you know I love talkingIf you plan to workout, you won’t do it. Then you’ll wake up the next day, and the next day…then you’ll eventually start next Monday…yea right. Put it on your calendar that you are going to do some sort of physical fitness during the day. I workout from 10-11 everyday-I write this down. Some days I have time to do it earlier, so I do. If I can’t, I still know that from 10-11, I am not working or making other plans.

5. Make time for YOU. Aside from planning your workouts, a good tip for balancing work and family is to plan to do something for yourself once or twice a week. I kind of mix work and fun and sit in Starbucks, kid free from 4-7 on Friday nights. THIS is my “me time”. When Im working out, Im with a 2 year old. When Im shopping, again 2 year old. On Friday nights-Im ALONE. I check in with clients, plan out content and then when my blendicano and Justin’s peanut butter cups are gone,  bring home pizza and we watch movies. Awesome compromise and I still have my sanity.

6. Take days off. When I started to work from home I worked more than I planned on and my family time suffered because of this. I HAD to balance the time I was actually working and the time I was with my family so I took days off.It was hard at first to not respond to an email or check in with a client but I had to do it for my family. I now notify any clients I work with that Saturdays and Sundays are my days off. This allows us to unplug and get outside together! I still post a few photos to Instagram but other than that, its 100% family fun. The whole reason we work for ourselves is so we can set our own hours…so we might as well set them! 

I hope that these tips have been helpful. I use them on a weekly and daily basis and I have seen such a great improvement in balancing work and family time. Staying organized  and having better time management goes a long way!

How to: Plan Healthy Meals

Do you know how to plan healthy meals? 

Each time I post about my actual meal planning or meal preparation, I’m asked exactly HOW I plan healthy meals. Its pretty basic and I don’t put too much time into it. I feel that if you focus too much on food or exercise you get burnt out. Making small, smart choices seems to work best!

So, lets get to planning those healthy meals your family and backside will thank you for! Here are some things to consider:

•What do you want to eat?

• Your list

•How much do you need?

•Snacks

•Who the heck is making all this food? (Maybe I’m the only one who thinks this way 🙂 )

What kinds of healthy meals are you making? Depending on your eating style, you can google, Pinterest or use some recipes from Clean Eating 101 for your meals. I usually stick with meats, vegetables and a starch or two. Not much to it, just  EASY, HEALTHY RECIPES = stress free, quick meals. You can do simple dinners Monday-Friday then do a big, more complex meal once or twice a week if you want. My goal is to keep it simple, we all know that it’s a task wrangling kids, making meals and staying sane!

Write your meals out then create your list based off these items and ones you currently have.

Be sure to include enough food for each person. 3 meals a day + 2 snacks (or how ever you decide to eat)

I keep breakfast simple: Eggs and/or Oats with fruit+ maple syrup. After making everyone breakfast and getting them out the door, I need quick and easy so I have a shake.

Lunch for the kids: Sandwich with veggies and crackers. Adults: Meat (Turkey/chicken) and a vegetable (I add a starch in for my husbands meals)

Dinners: This is about the same as lunch. Meats, veggies and a starch

Snacks: This is the fun part. There is a huge variety of healthy snacks ideas you can add to your meal plan.  Find a few snacks you and your kids love and portion them out ahead of time. My favorite healthy snack is raw almonds. I put portions into zip bags and they are ready to go for home and on the go. This is my list of healthy snack ideas.

This is a pretty basic list of ways to create a healthy meal plan. It is really based on your preference of food and nutritional needs. There are so many resources out there! Plan at time where you can sit down and write out a list of meals. Focus on each task and it’ll be done in no time! You also don’t have to recreate the wheel…use this list over and over if you would like! Just be sure to do what works for your family!

How to: Save Money on Groceries

 

 

Are you a penny pincher or do you blow your budget every time you go to the grocery store? Im kind of in the middle. I know what I’m going to the store for a might get a few extra items that pushes my total up a bit (trying to get better about this!) Saving money on your groceries is possible if you put a few tips into place.

Make meals around items you already have. Go through your kitchen and write
down the ingredients you have. Create meals and a grocery list based on these items plus ones you will purchase.
•Plan for leftovers. By making more than you need, you will cut down on cooking time the restSave Money On Groceries www.healthyfoodfitfamily.com of the week. Each dinner makes enough for lunch the next day and you have it ready to take with you without any preparation!
•Buy Frozen/ in bulk. Frozen meats and vegetable are usually a better price, even when the vegetables are out of season. Next to  helping you save money, when you purchase frozen vegetables they come pre washed and cut so you will save time on preparing these vegetables.
•Shop what’s in season. Seasonal vegetables are kept in stock and can usually be found at great prices. Most stores have weekly “buy one get one free” deals, take advantage of these sales and freeze what you don’t need right away.
•Check Prices. Using the Sunday paper and weekly ads to find the best deals will help you prepare for you grocery trip. Checking with each of your local stores, you may find deals you would have missed by going to your regular store. It may take up a bit more time going to more than one store but if you find a deal on meats, its always worth it!
•Keep it simple. You don’t have to recreate the wheel. Stick with recipes you know your family will love and pick a new recipe to try once a week. This tip will keep meal planning stress free and you won’t be spending money on more spices and ingredients you may never use again.

I’ve been dreaming of the spring and have received questions on Instagram about working out in the winter? Yes, I can do at home workouts (I love those) but when I’m needing a bit of sun or to just break up my day, it’s nice to get outside and get some fresh (cold) air!

When is the best time to workout?

A frequent question I hear from many women is “when is the best time to work out?”
Here’s my answer: Workout when YOU have time and when YOU can stick to it.
It’s important that you are honest with yourself and set yourself up for success. I’ve seen many people unintentionally sabotage themselves by picking a time of day that they were told is “the best” but it wasn’t the best for them. Work, kids, and life can all get in the way. Find a couple times throughout the day that will work for you and switch it up. Everyday won’t be the same so be flexible and willing to change your workout time.

As you are deciding what time is the most ideal for you, take into account a few different factors:
* The location of the workout
* The type of workout
*  With whom you are doing the workout
*  Your schedule for the day (you may have to schedule it a different times on different days
*  Your nature body rhythm
I have found that working out first thing in the morning works best for me. My lifestyle is a bit busy and if I don’t get it done then, life gets in the way and my workout gets shoved on the back burner.
The only time of day that might not be the greatest is at 8pm and later. Working out right before bed can mess up your sleep and hinder your body’s ability to repair itself. Because our bodies want to wind down at night before sleep, exercise prevents us from resting well by increasing our heart rate and body temperature.
So, don’t let experts dictate to you when you should or shouldn’t workout. Any workout is better than no workout, regardless of what time of day that it is. Workout when it’s most convenient for you and when you know you won’t get interrupted.
So the question should be, when can you workout?

What is Shakeology? My honest review of Shakeology after 5 months of use.

Below I will share my honest review of Shakeology. Shakeology is a meal replacement shake made by the same company as P90X and Insanity.

I have been very upfront with my thoughts on eating whole foods and getting the most out of My Honest Shakeology Reviewwhat you put into your body. I explained in an earlier post my feelings towards health companies and now that I have spent the last 5 months learning more about my options I am confident that joining Team Inspire was a smart choice.

Over the years I have turned down many offers to try Shakeology. Maybe it was pride, I don’t know :). When I joined Team Inspire I had the option of purchasing a challenge pack that included an entire months worth of different flavors. I figured why not. I ordered a variety pack and waited for it to arrive. There are tons of Shake recipes online but I wanted to see if I could make a quick and easy shake without any crazy ingredients. I simply used Almond Milk. Thats it.

When I first tried it, I’ll admit I wasn’t in love. So, I continued to try the other flavors that came in the 3 pack. I am now using the Vegan Chocolate shake with just the almond milk. I blend it for a couple seconds and its ready to go.  I LOVE IT. I now add just Almond milk and some coffee or mint extract to the vanilla and enjoy it a lot more. I make a quick breakfast or super fast lunch in literally seconds. For me, that is golden. My kids love it, my husband loves it. Its a win win!

Since adding Shakeology into my meal plan I have seen my energy increase (I don’t feel exhausted during the day anymore), my skin is totally clear and I am getting every bit of nutrients and vitamins my body needs. I now feel strong and healthy all day long and am excited to have a quick and easy meal to make in the morning…or when I get a chocolate craving!
